In addition to the dashboards built into Labguru Analytics, you can view your Labguru data in a reporting tool of your own choice, or discuss direct access to the underlying data lake with Cenevo.
Using your own reporting tools
You can connect a reporting tool of your own choice, for example:
- Power BI (Desktop or Service)
- Tableau (Desktop or Cloud)
- Excel
This is useful when your team already standardizes on a particular tool, or when you want to combine Labguru data with data from other systems.
How it works
When Analytics is set up for your organization, your Labguru data is made available through a secure reporting endpoint on the underlying data lake. Your reporting tool connects to that endpoint using a personal token issued by Cenevo. The token is tied to you personally, so through it you only see the data you're already allowed to see in Labguru.
Requesting a token
- Contact Cenevo Support and let them know which tool you want to use.
- They will create a token for you and choose how long it should remain valid (for example, 30 or 90 days).
- They will share the token and the connection details (server address, path, catalog and schema) with you securely — either directly through a secure file share or password manager, or via AWS Secrets Manager if your organization already uses AWS.
Treat the token like a password. Anyone who has it can see your Labguru data.
Connecting Power BI
- In Power BI Desktop choose Get Data → Databricks (click More if the Databricks option is not visible).
- Paste the server address and HTTP path provided to you.
- Choose Import for smaller data sets or DirectQuery for large ones.
- When asked for credentials, choose Personal Access Token and paste the token.
- Select the catalog and schema you were given, then choose the tables you want to load.
Connecting Tableau
- In Tableau choose Connect → Databricks.
- Paste the server address and HTTP path provided to you.
- For authentication choose Personal Access Token and paste the token.
- Select the catalog and schema you were given, and drag tables onto the canvas to start building your view.
Connecting other tools
Most modern reporting tools support connecting to the same kind of endpoint. The connection details you receive from Cenevo Support (server address, path, catalog, schema and token) are the same information those tools need. If you're unsure how to enter them in a particular product, check that product's own documentation for connecting to Databricks.
When the token expires
Tokens are issued for a limited time so your access is reviewed periodically, rather than left open indefinitely. When your token is close to expiry Cenevo Support will issue a replacement; you will need to update the connection in your reporting tool with the new token.
If a token has been lost or shared
If you think a token may have been lost or shared with someone who should not have it, contact Cenevo Support immediately. They can revoke the token, after which it will no longer work.
Integrating with the underlying data lake
Labguru Analytics is built on top of a managed data lake (Databricks) that holds your Labguru data in a structured, reporting-ready form. Most customers interact with this data through the built-in Analytics experience or by connecting their own BI tool with a personal token, as described above.
How to get started
If you are interested in direct integration with the data lake that underpins Labguru Analytics, please contact Cenevo Support or your account representative. They will:
- Discuss your use case and the data you want to access.
- Confirm what is included in your current license and what, if anything, would need to be added.
- Agree on the appropriate access pattern, security model, and commercial terms for your organization.
Direct data lake access is not enabled by default and cannot be self-served from within Labguru.
