A Service Type defines what a customer can submit, which Labguru collection it maps to, and which fields appear on the submission form. Every submission in the portal belongs to a Service Type.
Creating a Service Type
Go to Service Types → New. Fill in:
- Name (required) — display name shown to customers
- Submission Mode — Create New (customer creates new samples) or Add to Existing (customer adds stock to existing Labguru items)
- Collection Name — the Labguru collection this service type maps to (required for Create New mode)
- Request Templates — which Labguru request templates to associate
- Storage — which Labguru storage location to use
Note: Submission Mode is what separates the portal's different use cases — Create New suits sample testing or material submission (new items go into Labguru), while Add to Existing suits shipping requests or kit orders against a known product line or batch (drawing down existing stock instead of creating new items).
Syncing Fields from Labguru
After creating a service type, sync its custom fields:
- Open the service type
- Click Sync Fields from Labguru
This pulls every custom field from the Labguru collection's schema — names, types, available options, and required flags. Run it again any time fields change in Labguru.
Controlling Which Fields Appear on Forms
After syncing, open Service Type Fields. Each field has an Include in Form toggle — included fields appear on the customer's sample form, excluded fields stay hidden. Drag rows to reorder how fields appear.
Submission Fields
Submission fields apply once per submission, not per sample — think project name, department, or billing code. Create and manage them from Service Type → Service Type Submission Fields. Unlike sample fields, these aren't synced from Labguru — you build them manually.
Syncing Items (Add to Existing mode)
For service types in Add to Existing mode, click Sync Items from Labguru to refresh the list of Labguru items customers can select from.
